Rockacryl RCC-225

Because of pigments compatibility and pigment binding power, Rockacryl RCC-225 is an excellent binder for weather resistant emulsion paints. It has an excellent binder for scrub resistant and washable interior emulsion paints. This polymer is also used as a binder for resin-bond plasters, primers and also is very suitable to make adhesives because of its good film properties. Suitable titanium dioxide grades, other pigments and the usual extenders can be used to produce paints. Pigmenting can be done in normal way by mixing the pigments and extenders into a paste with the usual additives and water and then working this into the emulsion which has been adjusted to a neutral PH.
Rockacryl RCC-225, for exterior paints especially in the pastel shades is suitable and also the suitability of organic pigments must be checked.

Application & Recommendation

The combination of Rockacryl RCC-225 with other Rockacryl grades, synthetic latexes and cellulose derivatives in order to get certain properties is possible. For example to adjust the viscosity of the paints and improve their brush ability, cellulose derivatives with delayed swelling and its aqueous solutions such as methyl cellulose may be used. To lower the MFT of Rockacryl RCC-225, it is advised to add solvents such as ethyl glycol acetate, butyl-glycol acetate possibly in combination with spirit approximately 1-3% relative to the finished products even at lower temperatures. Suitable wetting agents for the pigment mixture are sodium hexa meta phosphate or polyphosphate. Quantities up to 0.2% are sufficient relative to the weight of the pigment, added in the form of 10% aqueous solutions. Any addition of solvents should be done with care. It is often more advantageous to add them to the pigment paste rather than afterwards. Rockacryl RCC-225 is a fine particle size polymer on which shear forces do not produce any change in viscosity. Although possible in principle, but in most cases it is not necessary to incorporate plasticizers such as D.B.P. To improve the frost resistance use water-miscible solvents such as glycols (ethylene glycol). Rockacryl RCC-225 is a very suitable non-woven binder for wadding and lining with outstanding effects on final products.

CAUTION

Rockacryl RCC-225 is cold sensitive and in storage and transportation must be kept from freezing.
